Brothers from Waverly, NY, Guy and Mike Schamel, Sr. grew up spending their summers on Seneca Lake, at their family cottage on Peach Orchard Point in Hector. In 1969, they started building docks during their summers off from Mansfield University, leasing a pile driver to start their business. After teaching for two years after college, the brothers decided to leave the classroom to run Schamel Brothers full time. Union machine operator Lee Titus joined the business 10 years later, to expand services to include excavation and sitework. 50 years, 5 children, and 8 grandchildren later, Schamel Brothers remains a family owned and operated business. Guy and Mike Sr. and their families reside in Hector, NY remaining active members of the Schuyler County community. In 2019, Mike Sr.’s son, Matthew, purchased the family business.
