Schuyler County, NY, August 19, 2026– The Schuyler County Legislature has proclaimed August as Immunization Awareness Month in Schuyler County. As part of this observance, Schuyler County Public Health is encouraging parents to make sure their children have the vaccines they need before school starts next month. In New York State, all children going to public, private, and religious schools, including pre-K and daycare, must get certain vaccines unless they have a valid medical exemption.

“With summer winding down it’s important to make sure your child has the essentials ready for the new school year,” shared Jill Kasprzyk, Director of Schuyler County Public Health. “Be sure to check with their doctor that they have all the vaccines they need to keep them healthy.”

Schuyler County Public Health shared that getting vaccines (also called shots or immunizations) can prevent children from getting sick. Vaccines work by strengthening the natural immune system to protect from dangerous germs like measles, polio, and meningitis.
