Schuyler County Public Health invites the community to attend their 100-Year Celebration Open House and Student Art Show. The Open House and Art Show are scheduled for Wednesday, September 23 from 4 PM to 6 PM at Public Health’s new offices in the Shared Services Building (910 South Decatur Street, Watkins Glen, NY 14891). Art from Watkins Glen Central School District students will be on display during the open house.

“We wanted to showcase art from our community during the open house because the work we do is all about our community,” shared Jill Kasprzyk, Director of Schuyler County Public Health. “For 100 years, our department has been working to protect and promote the health of our community – our friends, families, and neighbors.”

Schuyler County Public Health shared the following highlights from their 100 years of service to Schuyler County:

• 1926: the first Public Health Nurse, Miss Conley, was hired. Her work focused on life-saving diphtheria vaccines for children.
• By 1954: the county’s two Public Health Nurses focused on a variety of health topics including maternal and child health and preventing communicable diseases. They accomplished this work through home visits and clinics.
• 1973: Local Law No. 1 was passed, leading to the establishment of Public Health’s Watershed Protection Agency.
• 1990s: Public Health’s work expanded to include programs such as the lead poisoning prevention program (1991) and Early Intervention program (1992).
• 2006: The Schuyler County Commission on Underage Drinking (SCCUD) was founded. It later became the Schuyler County Coalition on Underage Drinking and Drugs (SCCUDD).
• 2007: Schuyler County’s Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) was established.
• 2012: The Suicide Awareness for Everyone (SAFE) coalition was founded.
• 2026: The entire Public Health team moved into the Shared Services Building.

“We look forward to seeing community members at the open house,” shared Kasprzyk. “During the open house they can tour our new offices, view the outstanding student artwork, and learn more about the services we provide.”
